Memory Verse- Romans 12:9-12
We are learning the Biblical secret to living a successful Christian life.

Math:

Lesson 38, all problems

Science:

We created a gene today using paper nucleotides and card stock as our sugar and phosphate molecules to add stability.  We also created

Social Studies:

We labelled a map of the original 13 colonies and colored the different regions of the colonies

Language Arts:

Handwriting-  Lesson 8 Day 2 & 3

Spelling- Worksheet  9

Reading- We practiced having small group discussions, and how to turn our predictions or connections into discussion topics.  Also, they had time in class to read chapter 9 and work on their 3 discussion topics for tomorrow.

Grammar- We reviewed possessive nouns, adjectives, and began introducing verbs today with a quick quiz.

Bible:

Memory Verse - Romans 12:9-12
We are beginning a study on how to overcome using God's methods of success!

Math:

We spent a bit of our times table time choosing our new desk arrangement.  The students get to vote which arrangement the desks are in, but I get to choose who sits where.
Lesson 36, all numbers

Science:

We are going to spend some time learning about DNA and RNA, and the processes of translation and transcription.

Social Studies:

We began with a quiz about the 13 colonies, and the best anyone in the class did was 3 colonies correct.
We are going to learn the names of all 13 colonies, and then about life in the colonies.

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 8 day 1 & 2

Spelling-  Pre Test 9, students are to write any word they miss 5 times, and each one they get correct 2 times.

Reading- Chapter 8 of Blood on the River and the students are required to write down three discussion topics for tomorrow

Writing- We are learning how a storyline works and how to self-edit our papers.

PE:

We ran our 'mile' today, and then played a game of the students' choice.

Our Week of Prayer continued today

Math:

13 Times tables.  We are working on techniques to help us learn how to mulitply larger numbers more quickly
Lesson 35 - all problems

Science:

We are learning about DNA, and will be making candy DNA model tomorrow.  We learned about the nucleotides that make up DNA

Social Studies:

Our last day of the simulation.  We talked afterward about the different experiences, and how both positive and negative experiences are there for us to learn from.

Language Arts:

Handwriting-  We wrote thank you notes for the students who are leading out our Week of Prayer.

Spelling- Worksheet 8

Grammar- Possessive Nouns

Reading- We have begun reading excerpts from All Creatures Great and Small, by James Herriot.  We are also learning how to generate discussion questions using the skills of successful readers.

Bible:

Memory Verse -  Romans 12:9-11
We are having our Spring Week of Prayer, so that is taking the place of our usual Bible Class

Math:

13 Times tables.  WE are learning the trick to multiplying the double digit numbers up to 15
Lesson 33, all letters, but only odd numbers

Science:

We learned about Chromosomes and genes today.  We also, in learning about the shape of the chromosome, the double helix, learned that a 2 1/4 inch slinky could be stretched out to more than 50 ft.

Social Studies:

Only one more day left for our simulation, although three groups are still alive, and most of the indentured servants are now owned, there appears to be only one group that will be able to pay off their debt by the deadline.

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 7 Day 2 & 3

Spelling- Sentences for our first three or four words

Grammar- Possessive Nouns,  We had a simple quiz to determine who understands possessive nouns, and who does not.

Reading- Chapter 7 of Blood on the River.  Kids are learning how to approach reading as a successful reader.

We are having our Fall Week of Prayer presented by Columbia Adventist Academy.

Math:

13 Times table  We are learning how to break down a number to make it easier to multiply
For example:   13x7 = 10x7 + 3x7
Lesson 32 - all problems

Science:

We are beginning Chapter 3, and I handed out objectives today

We played our first 'game' of touch football.  Girls playing against the girls, and boys playing against the boys.

Bible:

No memory verse since it is the last week of the quarter
We played a Bible game today to help us learn our Bible books

Math:

Times 12
Investigation 3.  I have the kids work in groups for their investigations so they can get used to asking for help from each other, and teaching each other.  This is something that is an uncomfortable, but important skill they need to learn.

Science:

We practiced writing our essay answer for objective # 5 today.  As a class, we wrote our notes on the board, and then each student practice writing an answer.
Chapter 2B test tomorrow!!!

Social Studies:

We did not get to our simulation today due to science review.

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 6 day 3&4

Spelling- First three or four sentences from the first side of our spelling sheet.

Grammar- Singular Possessive Nouns

Reading- We read Chapter 4 of Blood on the River and began learning how to read out loud.  A full breath for a period, half a breath for a comma.  Also, we worked on emoting for the punctuation, but that was not quite as successful, we need more work

Writing- Rough draft work.  Our Rough drafts for our stories will be due on Friday

PE:

Today we worked on core strength, and then on how to throw a football

Bible:

No memory verse this week - last week of the quarter
We went over Matthew 24:33-45 about the separating of the sheep and the goats, and their responses to Jesus.

Math:

Test # 5 - There will be a retake tomorrow for the students who need it.

Science:

We finished our Objectives today, but I don't think the kids understood #6 very well.  I will work on presenting it again tomorrow, and may look to putting off the test until

Social Studies:

Simulation- Land Round 5.  We did not have anyone starve in round 4, the first round for that to happen.  The Colonists are farming, but during round 5, somehow we seemed to forget how important food was, and began looking for gold and treasure again.

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 6 Day 2 & 3

Spelling- Worksheet 6

Grammar-  Adjective worksheet 6; Comparative and Superlative adjectives

Reading- Chapter 3 of Blood on the River.  Kids are working on practicing skills of quality readers such as connections and predictions.  The kids are to do three connections and/or predictions in any combination.

Writing- We are working on our rough drafts of our stories.  Kids are working hard, and many have multiple pages already, but we are working on creating a beginning that helps the story, such as using an action scene, a background, or another type of telling scene to help set the storyline up.

Bible:

No Memory Verse this week due to being the last week of the quarter
Finishing our study of God's purpose for us.  We also talked about being able to find Jesus in every verse of Scripture, and practiced that today.

Math:

12 Times tables
Lesson 29, all problems

Science:

Test this Thursday over Ch. 2B
We finished objective # 5 today, and have only 2 vocabulary words and objective #6 left to do.

Social Studies:

Last week of simulation.  We've had about an 80% death rate, which is just slightly higher than the normal of around 75%.

Language Arts:

Handwriting -  Lesson 6 Day 1 & 2

Spelling- Pre Test Lesson 7

Grammar - Plural Nouns that do not change spelling  Noun Worksheet # 6

Reading - We began an independent reading today of a book titled Blood on the River.  This is a historical fiction account of the settlement of the Jamestown colony.  They were to read the first two chapters today.

Writing - We are in the process of writing our rough drafts for our story.  We are working on creating a good hook for our introduction, and then using adjectives to create sensory pictures with our words.

We are studying on God's purpose for each of us.

Math:

11 times tables
Lesson 28, all problems

Science:

Today we began studying cellular respiration after a review of photosynthesis.

Social Studies:

Simulation - Round 4 is in the books, and almost everyone who has survived has figured out that they need to produce food to live.  Visiting ships are arriving and Indentured Servants are being off-loaded.  Only one group at this point has paid anything toward their debt.  We may have one group that survives without being thrown into debtors prison.

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 5 Day 4

Spelling- Last 3 or 4 Sentences

Grammar- Plural Noun Worksheets 4 & 5

Reading- We read another chapter of Summer of the Monkeys and are now almost done with the book.  We have been discussing the concept of a God who only blesses when we do good, and how that image isn't true of the God of Scripture.


Writing- We spent two days brainstorming, and now are beginning to write our rough draft

Bible:

Memory Verse- Romans 12:9,10
We played a Bible game today to help us learn our Bible books.   We had to stop a bit early today when the students struggled to respect a rule we had established.  This disappointed them, but I am sure they will learn quickly enough that rules are there to help us and not to be disregarded

Math:

Times 11
Lesson 27 all problems

Science:

We reviewed photosynthesis(plant cells) by each having a name tag of one of the elements involved in photosynthesis and role playing what they each did.

Social Studies:

Simulation -  We had another land round today.  Students are starting to realize how important food is and one or two are getting the idea of how to produce food.

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 5 Day 3 &4

Spelling-   First three or four spelling words in sentences

Grammar- Pluralizing nouns

Reading- We read a chapter from Summer of the Monkeys, and Jay Berry has finally captured the monkeys!

Writing- We are working on Pre-writing for our Conflict stories.  We talked about how to start a story with either an action scene, a scene that creates a setting, or a scene that tells us about the main character.

Bible:

Memory Verse - Romans 12:9-10
We read Isaiah 58:6,7 and Philippians 4:2,3 today to learn what God calls us to do, so that we can earn true esteem, not what the world likes to call self-esteem.  We are now more than 1/2 done with our current Bible study on God's purpose for us.

Math:

11 Times tables.  We also learned a trick to multiply an two digit number by 11.
Lesson 26 all problems.

Science:

We are learning about photosynthesis in plant cells right now.

Social Studies:

We had our first visiting ship in our simulation, so the indentured servants got to line up and get reviewed for health, a simple tooth inspection, fitness and strength levels, and other important aspects to their ability to do manual labor.  Then only some were purchased, so the others continue to be simple classroom laborers.  They are certainly 'loving' that.  Please make sure to process with them at home about how they felt if they weren't chosen and how life might have been for someone who really was in that situation in real life in the 1600's.

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 5 Day 2 & 3

Spelling- Worksheet for lesson 6 today

Grammar- Plural Nouns and adjectives.

Writing -  We began brainstorming using a mind map for our new stories, which are a topic of choice.

We talked about the sacrifice that God wants from us today.

Math:

Times 11, we learned a trick to multiply 11 by any two digit numbers
Lesson 25, all problems.

Science:

We are beginning to learn about Photosynthesis and cellular respiration.

Social Studies:

Simulation- many are dead, but we have our first visiting ship that, hopefully, will have some indentured servants.  Now we need to see if the colonizers are willing to take on more debt!

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 5 Day 1 & 2

Spelling- Pre test 6

Grammar- Noun Quiz

Writing- Turned in the final draft of our Advertisements, Began brainstorming our new stories.  We talked about how a good story has conflict between a protagonist, the good guy, and an antagonist, the bad guy.

PE:

Mile run today, then the kids had some free time to organize their own game

Happy PFD day!

Bible:

Memory Verse - Romans 12:9
We learned 2 ways that we are called to glorify God in 1 Chronicles 16:23,24, through talking about His salvation/gospel/good news, and by telling of His glorious deeds/works in our lives.

Math:

9 Times tables
Lesson 23

Science:

We worked on objective # 3 today.  We also practiced again for our organelle quiz on Friday.

Social Studies:

Simulation.  We completed one land round today where those who are still alive did all they needed to do, for the most part.  They still haven't figured out that food is their most important thing.  We had the first group who had finished their round starve due to lack of food.

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 4 Day 4

Spelling- Sentences for our last 3 or 4 words on the side with LOG as the root

Grammar -  Identifying Nouns and Sensory Adjectives.

Writing -  We finished our editing of our advertising rough drafts.  Our final copies are due next Monday

Music:
