2/29/16

Happy Leap Day!

Bible:

Memory Verse - Proverbs 3:5-7
We reviewed Daniel 7, and the identifying characteristics of the little horn, and the began Daniel 8

Math:

Intermediate 5 - 6 times tables - Lesson 78
Course 1- Adding and subtracting decimals -  Lesson 77

Science:

We spent a lot of time with our Math today, so I skipped our science time today

Social Studies:

We learned today about the effects the French and Indian War had on the colonies.

We also took the easiest quiz in the world, and here are the questions:
How long did the 100 years war last?
Where are Panama hats made?
What is catgut made from?
What animal are the Canary Islands named for?
In what month does Russia celebrate the October Revolution?



Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 21 Day 1 & 2

Spelling- Pre Test Lesson 21

Grammar- We are learning how to paragraph

Reading- We reviewed where each student was supposed to be in their reading by tomorrow

Writing- Our three weekly writing topics are:
1.What is your favorite meal?

2. Write about a time you had difficulty seeing.

3. What was your favorite time that involved a fire?

We played a Bible game today to help us learn our Bible books

Math:

Intermediate 5 - Lesson 76
Course 1 - Lesson 75
I did not do a timed test today because we have been having a significant number of questions during the lesson period, and I wanted to have plenty of time to answer everyone's questions and to work with everyone who needed it one on one.

Science:

We finished up our liquid density experiment by discussing our observations and results.  One thing I learned is to not use rubbing alcohol, it evaporates and does not create a quality visible layer of differentiation

Bible:

Memory Verse - Philippians 4:6,7
We are studying the prophecy of Daniel 7, and comparing it to the prophecy in Daniel 2.

Math:

Intermediate 5 - 4 Times tables - Lesson 75
Course 1 -   Dividing by decimals - Lesson 74

Science:

We reviewed the vocabulary words we had already gone over, then worked on Objectives # 3 & 4.

Social Studies

TOday we learned about George Washington's first appearance on the stage of history, which was not very impressive.

Language Arts:

handwriting- Lesson 20 Day 1 & 2

Spelling- Pre Test 20

Grammar - Sentences worksheet 23, combining sentence

Reading - We are on Day 5 of our reading in our books.  Tomorrow we will be on day 6
                  Bridge to Terebithia - Chapter 5by tomorrow
                  My Side of the Mountain - Chapter 10 by tomorrow
                  Hatchet - Chapter 7 by tomorrow

Writing - Our choices for our Weekly Writing are:
1. Imagine you had $1000 to spend on someone or something other than yourself.  Who/What would you spend it on and what would you buy.'

2. Which of these superpowers would you want to have and why?
                    - super strength, flying, super speed.

3. If you could have any dinosaur as a pet, what would you choose and why?

PE:
We are learning how to play basketball and practicing basic skills.

Bible:

Memory Verse- Amos 3:7
We went over the statue in Daniel 2 and what the Bible tells us about what it represents.

Math:

Intermediate 5 - 3 Times tables; Lesson 73
Course 1 - Multi. decimals / Divide Fractions; Lesson 72

Science:

We went over Melting Point, Boiling Point, Sublimation, and displacement.
We experimented with about 3/4 of our Aluminum Foil boats to see how good our construction techniques were.  Our record boat held 107 washers before sinking.  Tomorrow we will discuss why certain designs did better than others.

Social Studies:



Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 19 Day 3 & 4

Spelling- Sentences for Lesson 19 back side.

Grammar- Identifying Independent and Dependent clauses.

Reading - We are reading Streams to the River, River to the Sea, about Sacagawea & Lewis & Clark together in class.

Bible:

Memory Verse - Amos 3:7
We played a Bible game today to help us learn our Bible books

Math:

Intermediate 5 - 3 Times tables ; Lesson 73
Course 1 - Multiplying Decimals and Dividing Fractions;

Science:

We are going over the building blocks of matter in class.  Learning about atoms, and the periodic table.

We are also learning about physical concepts such as displacement and surface tension.

Social Studies:

We are learning about New France.

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 19 Day 1 & 2

Spelling -  Sentences for Lesson 19, first 3 or 4 words

Grammar -  We are still learning to identify compound, complex, and simple sentences.

Writing - Due to the shortness of this week, we are not doing a weekly writing assignment, but we are going to work on paragraphing.  This is a concept that most of the students need to get a better grasp on.

PE:  We are working of basic basketball skills and ball game movement skills.  We are also conditioning by jumping rope at a 'fast' pace for 2 minutes straight.

2/15/16

Bible:

Memory Verse - Amos 3:7
We are beginning to go over the prophetic books of Daniel, chapters 2,7,8.  We will be drawing the beasts and identifying them Biblically.

Math:

Intermediate 5 - 3 times tables; Lesson 72.  For the students who just came back from vacation, they are working on learning how to plot points on a coordinate plane.  They will be doing this for 3 days
Course 1 - Multiplying decimal numbers / Dividing fractions - Lesson 71

Science:

We are beginning a combined chapter (11&12) on physical science and the elements of matter.  Today I handed out objectives and we learned about the different states of matter.

Social Studies:

Pastor read to us out of A Thousand Shall Fall, and we discussed a little about the German invasion of the Soviet Union  during WWII

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 19 Day 1 & 2

Spelling- We do have spelling this week.  Today was a pre test for Lesson 19.  I have talked to the students about allocating their time more effectively this week because it is a short week.  Hopefully we are at a point where the students have practiced their study skills enough to understand the importance of preparing for Friday today.  

Reading- Pastor read to us out of the book mentioned above, and I am reading to the class out of Streams to the River, River to the Sea, a story about Sacagawea and the Lewis and Clark expedition.

Grammar / Writing- The students are learning how to create and use compound and complex sentences and we are attempting to incorporate both into our writing to improve our writing.

Bible:

Memory Verse - John 16:13
Students are learning to use the techniques we have learned in class to study out topics on their own in the Bible.  They have a worksheet that asks questions and directs them to bible verses to find answers.  I am not leading out in this, they are praying for God's Spirit to guide them into truth (John 16:13, John 17:17), and then studying Scripture using the techniques God gives us in Isaiah 28:10.

Math:

Investigation 5 - 12 times tables
Course 1 - Multiplying decimals/dividing fract
Finish Investigation 7 and basic graphing

Science:

Chapter 4 Test. There will be  a retake tomorrow for those who need it.  I told the students about this test on Monday of last week.  We then proceeded to review the chapter Tuesday and Wednesday, and I gave them their essay questions on Wednesday for them to study over the long weekend.  It was also put on the blog last week.  
As of yesterday, I had a couple of students who were surprised we had a test today.  I did not give them an extension, because we spoke about how important it was to study over the break due to the size of the information this chapter presented.

Bible:

Memory Verse - John 16:13
Today we began a section on the students practicing the study skills we have learned on their own.  After we successfully accomplish this, we will then move on to the prophetic sections of the book of Daniel.

Math:

Both Groups - We learned the basics of graphing on on a coordinate plane, and practiced the skill. Each student is drawing a pictures on their coordinate plane, and then submitting it to me.  I will then give out their directions to another student to draw.

Science:

Chapter 4 test tomorrow.
 We reviewed our objectives today

Social Studies:

We are learning about the other European powers on the North American continent during colonial times.

Language Arts:

handwriting- Lesson 18 Day 1 & 2

Spelling-  Lesson 18 Pre Test

Grammar- we are attempting to learn about independent and dependent clauses.  This is a tough concept, and we will do our best to learn it.

Writing- TOpics to choose:

1 - If you could be any animal in the world, what would it be?

2 - Was there ever a time you got totally stressed that, after the event, you learned that it was not worth all the stress.

3 - What was your favorite time you got completely filthy(dirty).

Reading- All students need to bring in their books and reading notes.

Bible:

Memory Verse - Romans 12:9-21
Today we had a 'quiz' to go over what we had learned about the sanctuary

Math:

Test 13 today for both groups.  There were one or two who will need a retake tomorrow, but for the most part, we did very well.  As a class we are grading our assignments well, and it is showing.

Science:

There will be a chapter test on next Tuesday!!!
We are beginning to review our chapter because it was so large and complex.  Today I had the students ask any objectives that they were having trouble with, and we answered them in class.

Social Studies:

We have finished our simulation and are beginning a chapter on the other European powers on North America prior to the Revolutionary War, and the British conflicts with them.  Today we reviewed our simulation and any lessons we learned from it.

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 16 Day 3 & 4

Spelling- No spelling list this week

Writing- We are working on finishing last weeks weekly writing, since we didn't have time last week to complete the assignment.

Grammar- We are working on learning about compound sentences, compound subjects, and compound predicates using conjunctions.

Music:
