3/31/16

Outdoor Ed Parent Meeting:  6:30 pm tonight at the school is the parent meeting for the 5-8 outdoor ed April 19-21

Bible:

Memory Verse - 1 Thessalonians 5:!8
We finished our Matthew 8 worksheet and will get back to studying the prophecies of Daniel and Revelation next week.

Math:

Intermediate 5 - Test 17 today
Course 1 - Lesson 89

Science:

We took a bit more time outside today due to the excessively warm weather and the excessive energy of the class, and so we sacrificed science time for this energy outlay.

Social Studies:

The Revolutionary War has begun!  We read about the Battles of Lexington and Concord today.

Language Arts:

Handwriting-  Lesson 24 day 4

Spelling- Lesson 24 Second set of sentences, for the second side of the list.

Writing- We had 30 minutes to work on our weekly writing.  Most students have finished their drafting and are working on editing or their final draft.  

Reading- We had 10 minutes of free reading time in class.

Bible:

Memory Verse - 1 Thessalonians 5:18
We played a Bible game today to help us learn our Bible books.  Kids are getting quite good at their books and I am considering changing the rules to make us learn our books backwards!

Math:

Intermediate 5 - Lesson 90 Tomorrow we will take a test
Course 1 - Lesson 89, tomorrow we will do lesson 90

Science:

We had a quick discussion about our Science Fair projects.  Then we finished our vocabulary on our objectives.


Social Studies:

We played a social studies game today to help us learn about our country,

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 24 day 3 & 4

Spelling- Lesson 24 sentences for the first side.

Grammar- We are working on using quotation marks

Writing- We had time to work on our drafting, some students had moved onto the editing portion of their writing.

Reading- We had 15 minutes of free reading time today.

We are finishing our work on Matthew Chapter 8

Math:

Intermediate 5- 7 times table, Lesson 89
Course 1 - Simplifying fractions and then dividing them, Lesson 88

Science

We discussed to science fair projects and my expectations for them.  Student Ideas are due this Friday, and then we will create a timeline for each student to complete their project.

Social Studies:

We read about the First Continental Congress and their appeal to King George III to repeal the Intolerable Acts

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 24 day 2&3

Spelling- Create your own worksheet

Grammar- Comma and quotation mark quiz.

Reading-

Writing- We should be finished with our Brainstorming today and the students should be moving on to the drafting phase of the writing process

We are finishing our worksheet on Matthew beforecontinuing our Journey through Bible prophecy

Intermediate 5 - 7 times tables - Lesson 88
Course 1 - Simplifying and dividing fractions

Science:

We learned about the periodic table today and the periods and groups of the table

Social Studies:

We learned about the Boston Tea Party today

Language Arts:

Handwriting - Lesson 24 Day 1 & 2

Spelling - Pre test for Lesson 24

Grammar- We are learning how to properly punctuate quotations

WRiting- Kids have a topic of choice for their weekly writing this week.  The new element is that they are to include quotations and use proper punctuation for them.

PE:

We are learning to play Field Hockey

Bible:

There is no memory verse this week
We discussed the lessons we can learn from the theme of the book of Judges, and then we went over the cleansing of the leper in Matthew 8

Math:

Intermediate 5 - Lesson 87
Course 1 - Lesson 86

Science:

We are going over the structure of atoms, and the basic elements.  Today we began to learn how to read the periodic table of the elements.

Social Studies:

We have arrived in our history at the Boston Massacre. We are learning how relations between the American colonies and the homeland of Great Britain soured after the French and Indian War.

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 23 Day 3 & 4

Spelling- Lesson 23 Sentences for the second side of the spelling sheet

Grammar- We are learning how to use punctuation marks.  We are focusing on commas and quotation marks

Reading-  the students have 20 minutes of quiet reading time today.

Bible:

No memory verse this week because it is the last week of the quarter.
We are going over the prophecies in Daniel Chapter 8

Math:

Intermediate 5 - 7 times tables, Investigation 8.  All students finished their work today.
Course 1 - simplifying fractions, Lesson 81

Science:

We did not do science today to give us more time to go over our Social Studies and any questions the students had.

Social Studies:

Essay questions are objective number 3,6, &7.  We went over each today and as a class collected information and notes to help us have enough information to get 10 points on our essays.

Langauge Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 22 Day 1&2

Spelling- Lesson 22 Pre Test

Grammar- We finished working on paragraphs with a simple quiz on identifying paragraph parts.   I will work with those who struggled to help remediate the concept for them.  We also began work on a section on capitalization.

Reading-

Writing- 

Our three weekly writing topics are:
1. Write about one adventure of Senor Sudor!
               - He is our super sweating superhero.
2. Imagine it is 20 years from today, what are you doing?

3. What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you?

PE:

We played a running game of tic tac toe.

We then had a free play basketball time.

Bible:

Memory Verse - Proverbs 3:5-7
Due to our complete lack of energy over the last couple of days, I chose to move from our usual Bible time of going over the prophecy of Daniel 8 and play another Bible game.  It worked, and the kids as a whole really had more energy today, or maybe it was just me with a more positive attitude?!?

Math:

Intermediate 5 - Test 15
Course 1 - Lesson 80,

Science:

 We discussed what chemical properties, acids and bases, and chemical reactions we see in everyday life.

Social Studies:

We reviewed all of our objectives in class today
There will be a test on Tuesday.

Language Arts:

Handwriting-  Lesson 21 Day 4

Spelling- Lesson 21 Worksheet

Grammar- We worked on non-standard paragraphs and how to identify and work with them.

Reading-  We spent 15 minutes reading in class.

Day of 11 of reading - Each student has the amount they are to read every day on the top of their reading notes page.
               

Writing- We spent 20 minutes of writing time.

As we seem to be having an early breakup, and our play area outside is melting, it would be handy to have rain/mud boots.

Bible:

Memory verse - Proverbs 3:5-7
We played a Bible game today to help us learn our Bible books

Math:

Intermediate 5 - Lesson 80
Course 1 - Lesson 79

Science:

We learned about chemical properties and chemical changes in things.

Social Studies:

We were going to review our chapter objectives today, but we ended up in a deep and interesting discussion of last day events as portrayed within Scripture.

There will be a Social Studies test next Tuesday.

Language Arts:

Handwriting- Lesson 21 Day 3 & 4

Spelling-Sentences for the second side of our spelling list

Grammar- We are working on identifying a paragraph.

Reading- We journaled about what we like about the books we are reading and whether we think the books are realistic.  I am pushing the students to use examples from their reading to support their claims.

Writing- We spent 25 minutes on our Weekly Writing today.
