10/31/16

Bible:


Memory Verse - Genesis 4:7
We went over Cain and Abel today, and began the story of Noah and the Flood

Language Arts: Writing

Grammar - Identifying incomplete sentences

We are beginning a new writing project, a biography.  I have asked students to come up with at least one person to do their biography on.

I have also given students permission to bring a computer or tablet to school to help the do their research for this paper.  We are going to be actively doing research in class on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday.

Science:

We went over pages 73-75, and learned about Reptiles

Social Studies:

We played a geography game today to help us with our awareness of the map of the world.

Language Arts: Reading

Reading groups were created today and here are the books:  they will be handed out tomorrow along with reading assignments.

Language Arts: Writing

Today was our last scheduled day of Peer conferencing during the editing process.  The kids are working well toward effective peer conferencing.  We talked about focusing on two things you can help the other student with.

Grammar - Identifying simple subjects and predicates.  Soon we will be moving to parts of speech.

Science:

20 minutes of working on pages 64, 65 and our objectives.  Then we went over in class the answers the students got.   Learning to work independently.

Social Studies:

We finished our movie, April Morning, and then began to go over other events in the early American Revolution

We went over the three different Domains of living creatures.  Today we finished off with Eukarya.

We are going over the Garden of Eden
     First - Man had a purpose, heaven wasn't just sitting around twiddling thumbs (Gen 2:15)
    Secondly - God gave humanity the simplest test there could possibly be (Gen 2:16,17)

Language Arts: Writing

Grammar - We worked on identifying Complete and Simple Predicates today
Students should have in their finished rough drafts of their narrative today.
Our job today was to complete our Self-editing checklist which helps us to look at our writing objectively for improvements we could make.

We are watching a movie entitled April Morning, about the Battle of Lexington and Concord.  It is a really corny historical fiction movie from the mid 80's that has some great hair!

We are working on our Bible timeline.  Putting the Bible stories in order.

Language Arts: Writing

We are working on our rough drafts of our free write stories.  Our rough draft is due tomorrow, and our final draft is due next Friday

Science:

We finished up section one of chapter 2 and began on section two.  Identifying prokaryotic and eukaryotic organisms.

Social Studies:

We watched a movie on the Battles of Lexington and Concord today.  It is from the 1980s and the hairstyles are a real memory maker, especially if you remember feathering your hair!

Language Arts: Reading

Some groups are done with their reading, and today we did a individual reading response to the book as a whole.  Those who are not done have one more day of reading and should be done by tomorrow.

Grammar - Complete and Simple subjects and predicates.  We are still working on identifying nouns because, for the most part, as a class, this is an area of weakness for us.

We worked on finishing our brainstorming for our free write narratives, and, for most of us, began drafting our story.

Language Arts: Reading

Day 12 of reading tonight.  We should be done with these books by the end of this week.

Science:

Test today!!  Students were notified a week and a half in advance of this test, and we went over different study techniques for the last week.

Today was our last day to work on our rough drafts for our persuasive essays. Tomorrow we will be working on the self-editing process and then moving onto the peer editing steps.

Science:

Test Tomorrow, students have known for a week and have been encouraged to study every day for the last week.  We have also gone over different study techniques and worked on how to write an essay question.

We worked on identifying helping verbs and main verbs in verb phrases, as well as nouns.

Some student have asked if they may type their papers at home.  I have given the permission, as long as they use the class Google App account.

We worked on how to write an essay question for our Science test this Wednesday.  Students have known about the test since a week ago, and we have been talking about different way to study and the importance of studying!

Happy PFD Day.  Remember not to go shopping over the next couple of days unless you enjoy crowded stores and long lines.

Bible:

Memory Verse - 2 Timothy 3:16
We learned that Jesus used to Old Testament to give two disciples a study about Himself (Luke 24), thereby teaching us that the Old Testament is useful for New Testament Christians as well.

Language Arts: Writing

We learned about Peer Editing today in regards to our Persuasive Essays.
We also worked on identifying verb phrases in class

Science:

Our Test is next Wednesday.  I have encouraged the students to study a little bit every night.

We have gone over different study and memorization techniques in class

We went over the first half of the steps in Meiosis.  We will be finishing our objectives tomorrow.
