8/25/15

Quote of the Day

"Children should be taught how to think, not what to think."
                                                                                          -   Margaret Mead

Bible:

Memory Verse - Matthew 18:15
We are beginning a study on the concept of a Great Controversy between God and Satan for each one of us.  Today we found out what the word Satan means in both Greek and Hebrew.

Math:

Times 3
Intermediate 5 / Course 1 - Lesson 1 We learned how to correct our work, both marking which ones we missed and how to go about correcting them.

Science:

Yesterday, the kids worked on defining vocabulary words in note form.  Today, I allowed them to do this for themselves without my help.  We then reviewed what they did.

Social Studies:

We finished our map scale worksheet, but still have a bit of work to do.  The students have a basic grasp of the concept, but we need more practice to strengthen their understanding.

Language Arts:

handwriting -   Hh, Ii, Jj, Kk

Spelling -   Lesson 1 worksheet.  We also talked about how to correct mistakes we made on our spelling Pre Test

Reading -  We read a chapter out of Summer of the Monkeys.  I am reading the book to the class and discussing the different techniques the author uses to make the story come alive.  Today we introduced the concepts of foreshadowing and hyperbole.

Writing -  Most of the kids are done with their 2 paragraphs detailing an important event in their lives and what they learned from it.  They are finishing filling out the 'newspaper' about themselves, and hopefully we will be done by Friday.
